With this page, we would like to show you the manufacture procedure of an artificial eye made of special glass (so-called "glass eye"). For an easier understanding there are some pictures for illustration available. As you know pictures can say more than thousand words.
A special glass (Cryolith)
is used as a starting material. This was specifically developed for the manufacture of
artificial eyes and is only produced in German glassworks. |
A so-called " half-done " is prepared with the corresponding iris color and pupil size. |
A big selection of "half-dones" guarantees a perfect adjustment to the patients natural eye. |
An optimal adaptation is only possible in the presence of the patient. Only so, can the artificial eye be reproduced to the look like healthy eye in its form, color and aspect. |
The glass is heated constantly over a flame during the complete process. |
Then follows the drawing of the blood vessels of the Sclera (veins). It is always observed that there is an even fusion of the glass. This is very important for the structure of the surface so that the surface is consequently free from every elevation. |
After this the prosthesis gets individually manufactured in form and size of each respective patient. |
| By the production of artificial eyes, they can be broadly distinguished in two categories. One of those is the "double-sided" design. | |||
The other is called the "one-sided". |
The finished artificial eye.
